Cameron’s U-Turn
Posted by middorsetlabour on November 23, 2008
On Tuesday 18th November everyone witnessed a Tory U-turn on policy. Several days’ later under the heading ‘More BBC lies about the Tories’ John Redwood complains that the BBC’s Today programme kept repeating that the Conservatives have done a U turn on public spending.
The Today programme was not lying it was merely reinforcing what David Cameron announced a few days’ earlier. Cameron, for a change, was crystal clear in his message that the Tories will no longer support Labour’s public spending targets after 2010.
Maybe what concerned John Redwood was the wide gulf his leader’s message created between Labour and Conservative public spending policies. Such a chasm makes it easier for the electorate to see which political party operates in their best interests.
Gordon Brown fiscal expansion will hasten growth in tax revenues along with the economy. In contrast Cameron is banking on cutting public spending which will affect spending on for example the NHS and Education. All the areas people have become accustomed to seeing growth they will see cuts if Cameron is elected to office. Vote Labour to protect public services from Cameron’s acts of desperation!
